If you don’t then your hot water system will not be covered by the solar system, as controlled load is wired interdependently to your general house power.If you install a timer or energy relay your solar power can heat your hot water system up during the hours that you have surplus solar energy – utilizing the solar system and saving you more money.  

Electric hot water system are on the of the highest power-consuming appliances in your home. Off Peak, Controlled Load, Ancillary are just some of the names your energy provider may call it. see some examples below of how it may show up on your power bill.
